About the protected area
- Total Area:2.9 km²
The Quilombola Community Menino Jesus de Pitimandeua was established at the end of the 19th century when seven enslaved black individuals settled and welcomed other fugitive or freed black people on the lands of Fazenda Menino Jesus, located in the municipality of Inhangapi, in northeastern Pará. This farm belonged to a Portuguese family and was later donated by the owner, further solidifying the group's presence in the area. Today, the community is known as Comunidade Remanescentes Quilombolas Menino Jesus de Pitimandeua and is home to approximately 230 people and around 55 families. The residents produce açaí, bananas, and cacao for subsistence and sell their products in nearby cities.
