Parque Estadual Itaberaba
About the protected area
- Total Area:151 km²
Protecting the biodiversity and conserving the water resources of the north-northeast region of the Serra da Cantareira are the reasons this park was created, and it forms an important ecological corridor between the Serra da Cantareira and the Serra da Mantiqueira. The predominant cover inside the park is secondary vegetation of dense montane ombrophilous forest, one of the formations that make up the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. In the region, 223 tree species have been sampled, including endangered species such as cedro-rosa and jacarandá-paulista.
