Parque Nacional do Caparaó

About the protected area

  • Total Area:318 km²

Located in the Serra do Caparaó, on the border between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Parque Nacional do Caparaó is one of the most popular destinations for mountaineering enthusiasts in Brazil. It is home to the third-highest point in the country, Pico da Bandeira, at 2,892 meters. Besides the trails, visitors can enjoy swimming in waterfalls and natural pools and take in stunning views of the Serra do Caparaó and the surrounding region, with beautiful displays at sunrise and sunset. The park has four campsites, reached through the Alto Caparaó entrance in MG - “Tronqueira” and “Terreirão” - and through the Pedra Menina entrance in ES - “Macieira” and “Casa Queimada”, with toilets, dishwashing sinks, tables, benches and kiosks (the latter only at “Tronqueira”), as well as barbecue grills in the visitor area called “Vale Verde” and at “Macieira”. Hikes through forest areas and, above all, across the high-altitude grasslands are other attractions of the park. Parque Nacional do Caparaó is open to visitors from Tuesday to Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can find more detailed information about the park on the Entre Parques BR website - https://entreparquesbr.com.br/caparao
