Trecho 19 - Paineiras / Corcovado x Parque Lage
About the trail
- Difficulty:
Moderate - Extension:4 km
Internationally known for connecting two of the city's major attractions, the trail has been recently modified to better accommodate visitor flow and comply with recommended conservation standards. With the alteration of the route, the path has become slightly longer but smoother for walkers. Visitors cross waterfalls and spend a good part of the time under the protection of dense forest, but some openings along the way provide views of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and the Cabeça River valley. The new route takes hikers directly to the entrance of the Christ the Redeemer Monument without needing to cross the tracks or walk along the road. Hikers walk along the trail until they reach the Mirante Cartão Postal, which offers a spectacular view of several mountains in the city of Rio de Janeiro, such as Pedra da Gávea, Pedra Bonita, Morro Dois Irmãos, Cantagalo, and Cabritos, as well as the Natural Monument of the Cagarras Islands and all the beauty of Rio seen from above. From this section, there are intersections that lead hikers to the Paineiras Visitor Center and to section 18 of the Trilha Transcarioca, which leads to the Primates Waterfall.
