Trilha Internúcleos - Núcleo Santa Virgínia
About the trail
- Difficulty:
Hard - Extension:20 km
This route features a hike through an important mountain range that separates two prominent watersheds in the landscape. It has sections with panoramic views of the area, showcasing unparalleled scenic beauty. The route allows visitors to pass by rivers and streams to drink water and enjoy a refreshing swim. There are sections where the trail runs alongside the Paraibuna River, one of the tributaries of the Paraíba do Sul River. It is possible to observe the local fauna, such as wild boars, jaguar tracks, and a rich local birdlife. In the channel of the Paraibuna River, the vegetation is more preserved, and one may encounter the giants of the forest (century-old trees). The final third of the trail passes through internal roads of the Cunha Center, featuring several waterfalls of the Paraibuna River. At the Cunha Center, visitors can also enjoy the Cachoeira do Barracão, considered the endpoint of the route. The path passes by research structures that monitor hydrological processes in watersheds and other attractions, such as the Palmital River, waterfalls, native vegetation, and high-altitude fields. Before purchasing a ticket, visitors must hire a registered independent environmental monitor. The list of monitors will be available on the online sales website. Entry control will be conducted by guards at the entrance, and then visitors will receive all information about the trail and sign a Liability Waiver. Following that, they will proceed to the trail accompanied by the hired environmental monitor.
