Espaço da Jaqueira
The Jaqueira Space is a meeting place where nature, history, and culture connect. In its wooded area, exotic trees such as the jackfruit tree and the oil palm stand out, indicating a possible past of human occupation focused on the cultivation of food plants, revealing knowledge and traditions passed down through generations. Located on the banks of the Rio do Brasil, now called the Rio da Barra, the space offers calm and shallow waters, ideal for swimming, as well as tables and benches for moments of rest and picnicking. The river holds great historical significance, having been recorded on the Cantino planisphere, one of the oldest nautical charts of Portuguese navigation. The presence of jackfruit trees and oil palms symbolizes Afro-Brazilian cultural resistance, just as the native forest represents the strength of the Atlantic Forest over time. The river also integrates the brand of the Caminhos do Brasil Original, a long-distance trail that connects Conservation Units in the region. Near the Headquarters Sector, the Jaqueira Space is a strategic point for visitation, serving as a starting point for various attractions in the Park. Here, visitors are invited to experience the relationship between landscape, memory, and preservation.
