Estrada do Pau Brasil - Caminhos do Brasil Original

About the trail

  • Difficulty:Hard
  • Extension:23.2 km

Pau Brasil Road is one of the main internal routes of the Pau Brasil National Park (PNPB), crossing the conservation unit from end to end and structuring a large part of the internal movements. Its name is a tribute to the pau-brasil (Paubrasilia echinata), the national symbol species that gives its name to the Park, representing the historical, cultural, and environmental relationship of the territory with the Atlantic Forest. Along the route, the road crosses extensive areas of Atlantic Forest, allowing direct contact with different stages of forest regeneration, as well as enabling the observation of the typical fauna and flora of the region. Pau Brasil Road is also part of the Caminhos do Brasil Original, a long-distance trail located in the southernmost part of Bahia, which connects three conservation units: the Pau Brasil National Park (PNPB), the Monte Pascoal Historical National Park (PNHMP), and the Discovery National Park (PND). Thus, in addition to its structural function within the Park, the road plays a strategic role in regional integration, strengthening nature tourism, orderly public use, and the appreciation of the natural heritage of southern Bahia.
