Serra do Piriá (Trecho 7 | Trilha Amazônia Atlântica)

About the trail

  • Difficulty:Moderate
  • Extension:51.22 km

The route of the final section of the Amazon Atlantic Trail passes through ancient communities, such as the villages of Fernandes Belo and Açaiteua, and rugged terrain that offers ideal conditions for singletrack cycling enthusiasts. Crystal-clear streams are included along the path leading to the enigmatic Serra do Piriá, located in the municipality of Viseu, on the border with the state of Maranhão. Along the route toward the highest point of the Serra, there are little-explored caves amidst the dense Amazon Rainforest. The climb to the natural lookout point is approximately 5 km long and requires physical preparation, but the rewarding landscape, with a view of the meeting point of the Amazon's Atlantic coast with the Atlantic Ocean, makes the effort worthwhile. Filled with natural attractions and exciting challenges, the route of this final section is an excellent option for starting your adventure along the Amazon Atlantic Trail, whether on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback.
