Travessia Petrópolis x Teresópolis

About the trail

  • Difficulty:Hard
  • Extension:30 km

In the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, the Petrópolis-Teresópolis Crossing is not only one of the most beautiful in the country but also one of the most difficult in the Rio region. The park is managed by ICMBio, which sets a limit of 100 people per day and sells tickets for the trail. There is an option to camp or stay overnight in the shelters provided along the route. The trail's difficulty is rewarded by the exceptional landscape and biodiversity that the hike offers. Parnaso is the third oldest park in Brazil, created by Getúlio Vargas in 1939, and is considered the cradle of Brazilian mountaineering with many trail and climbing options. Among the attractions along the route are the Véu da Noiva waterfall, the Chapadão with a view of Pedra do Açu, a stunning sunrise seen behind the Serra dos Órgãos, and the Portals of Hercules, a kind of viewpoint with a view of the Vale da Morte. The final section leads to the summit of Pedra do Sino, which stands at an altitude of 2,263m. The last day is dedicated to the descent to the headquarters in Teresópolis, with views of the city and the Três Picos State Park.
